UT Academic Senate: We have not asked for a fee increase

Immediately after the first day of the student protest on December 5 for VKM number 288 approved in May of this year (now repealed) point 4 of which provided for an additional tax for students who repeat exams, Edi Rama reacted on Twitter.

The simple truth: 1. The fees are not determined by the ministry but by the university 2. No fee has been increased since 2014 3. VKM for the fee for the remaining students has been requested by the universities 4. The effect of VKM starts next year 5. The Ministry has suggested today universities to consider revising the VKM

- Edi Rama (@ediramaal) December 5, 2018

According to him, the fees are determined by the university, not the Government, and that the amount for the fee for "residuals" was determined by the university.

Even yesterday evening, when Prime Minister Rama was invited to the Top Show studio of Alban Dudushi, he said that study fees are not set by the Government and that universities have the autonomy to do so. Students should go to the deans of their universities for this issue, said Rama.

Meanwhile, the Academic Senate of the University of Tirana came out today with a public statement stressing that it has not made any request for setting the fees for the exams.

"The University of Tirana supports the students' request for the halving of study fees and the Board of Administration is tasked with calculating the financial effects for UT", said in the statement.

It is also stated in the statement that the University of Tirana undertakes the creation of a working group of lecturers and students to examine all the problems raised by the students during this time as well as any other type of issue in order to improve the UT.
