For a long time now, the center of Tirana has turned into a construction site without criteria.
Within the territory that was once a protected historical area, seven towers are being erected.
Decision No. 582 of the Council of Ministers (at the request of the Municipality of Tirana), paved the way for the shrinking of the historical center of the city.
This intervention was criticized by the High State Control as not based on any real study, except for the interests of the construction business.
The towers being built in city center are:
- Tirana's rock – a 24-story tower in the shape of the bust of the national hero Skanderbeg, is rising above the ruins of 100-year-old villas of "Broduej" street".
- "New Hotel Tirana International" – A tower 33 floors which will be the continuation of the "Tirana Internacional" hotel, known as the 15th floor of Tirana.
- Book Building – It is a 4,5,11 and 21-storey building complex that is being built just 8 meters away Tirana Clock, the symbol building of the capital.
- "Eyes of Tirana” - The 24-story tower erected in the flower garden next to the Bank of Albania received the "blessing" of KKT in 2017.
- "Forever Green" - The tower started the works in February 2011. It took 25 years to complete the project of the 13-story tower after the bankruptcy of the company that started the works, it was completed by the company "AlbStar".
- "Tirana Mount" – A 185-meter tower will rise in a green space behind the Opera House.
- "Tirana Society Towers", the 300 meter high tower announced as the winner in the last competition, which will be next to Tirana Mount.
OODA's project for the 65-story tower
Another tower, not yet approved, but designed by the architectural studio OODA is expected to be approved by the National Territory Council.
Foreign architectural sites have published the project, consisting of two towers that, according to the studio, resemble the painting "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt.

Although there is still no decision published by KTT officially, CNN in one ITEM dedicated to this project says that it will start by the end of the year and is expected to be completed in 2028.
OODA is working on just three other projects in Tirana, including the new headquarters of a television station, according to Dezeen.
